Frequently Asked Questions

  • Open Enrollment for Medicare is October 15, 2024 – December 7, 2024 while under 65 is from November 1, 2024 – January 15, 2025. If you are under 65 and want to secure coverage by January 1, 2025, you must apply by December 15, 2024.

  • Outside open enrollment, you cannot enroll for an individual plan unless you have a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). These exemptions include: marriage, divorce, birth, losing other group coverage, and moving to a new state.

  • We offer short term insurance that can cover you until the next open enrollment period.

  • You do not need to be involved with the exchange (healthcare.gov) if you have employer sponsored insurance. The exchange is just for individual plans for subsidy eligible individuals.

  • While the penalty for not having health insurance coverage has been removed, you may still only apply for health insurance during Open Enrollment or after a Qualifying Event.

  • A Health Savings Account (HSA) is vehicle that allows you to use pre-tax dollars for unreimbursed medical, dental and vision expenses. There are annual limits (currently at $7750 for a family and $3850 for an individual) which cap how much you can deposit annually, and you must have a high deductible health plan (HDHP) in order to open and contribute to an HSA.

For 2024, the contribution limits increase again, allowing you to save up to the following amounts:

    • The maximum contribution for self-only coverage is $4,150

    • The maximum contribution for family coverage is $8,300.

HSA monies experience an annual rollover – unused funds can accrue and grow year to year. HSAs do not need to be attached to an employer or group insurance; individuals can open them.

A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is managed by a third-party administrator and only offered through an employer. The most you can deposit into an FSA is $2000 per year, and these funds are “use it or lose it.” This means that you must spend all your allotted pretax dollars in the year you deposited them, or they disappear.

  • While we will always try to accommodate, we strongly encourage calling ahead and making an appointment to confirm availability. We cannot guarantee a walk-in appointment same day.

“Rocky Mountain Insurance Group has supported us every step of the way.”

“Gena has been our insurance agent for the past nine years. Talking with Gena about the details of health insurance, it’s clear that she’s really smart, on top of her game, and acting in our best interest – never like we’re just talking to a salesperson. She’s able to comb through a wide number of insurance companies and their offerings, taking the time to get to know Hatch well and tailoring coverage to fit our needs. I have to say that not only Gena, but her whole staff, are truly exceptional. Everyone on staff is prompt, helpful, and courteous. Rocky Mountain Insurance Group has supported us every step of the way.”
